Lt. Gov. Gilchrist was selected as running mate for Gov. Gretchen WHITMER in August 2018.  Prior to his selection, he had run unsuccessfully for Detroit City Clerk.

He had a successful career with Microsoft as a software engineer where he helped to build SharePoint into the fastest-growing product in the history of the company.

Gilchrist also served as the first Director of New Media at the Center for Community Change at  While in Seattle, he also served as Social Media Manager for the 2008 Obama campaign in the State of Washington. 


He graduated from the University of Michigan, having studied computer engineering and computer science. 


He and his wife, Ellen, have twins, Garlin III and Emily Grace.
