Kehrl, Herb (D)State Representative District 56
Rep. Kehrl is the former chair of the Monroe County Community Mental Health Authority.
Rep. Kehrl has nearly three decades of experience as an educator and school administrator. He began his career as a teacher of history and U.S. government at Airport Community Schools and went on to become a principal. He then moved to the Woodhaven-Brownstown School District and served there as a principal for 22 years. Upon his retirement in 2000, Herb changed gears and took a job with Surovell Realtors as a real estate agent.
A two-time graduate of Eastern Michigan University, Herb has a bachelor's degree in political science, history and sociology, as well a master's degree in history. He also did doctoral work at the University of Michigan and Wayne State University. In 2002, he obtained his realtor's license after graduating from the National School of Real Estate.
Rep. Kehrl is married to Karen, a retired first-grade teacher. Rep. Kehrl and Karen have two adult children, Katie and Erinn.
Rep. Kehrl is the former Treasurer for Habitat for Humanity, a lector and communion server at St Joseph Catholic Church in Monroe, a former president of the church parish and currently serves in the Monroe Vicariate Jail Ministry, and is a member of the Frenchtown Senior Citizen Board.
