Kahn, Roger (R)State Senator District 32
Kahn, a former Saginaw County commissioner, was elected in November 2004 as the state representative for the 94th District where he served one term before becoming a Senator for the 32nd District in 2007. This session Kahn is the chair of the powerful Senate Appropriations Committee where he oversees state spending on behalf of the Senate Republican majority caucus.
After medical school, he trained at Beaumont Hospital in Detroit, where he became a cardiologist. Roger returned to Saginaw to practice cardiac medicine after going to medical school and training in Detroit. Then Saginaw had one part-time cardiac laboratory and no cardiac surgery. Sen. Kahn fought for and brought the balloon pump, modern pacemakers and outreach clinics to Saginaw and founded the Heart Group. He worked to expand the cardiac lab and initiate Saginaw's cardiac surgery program. He then successfully fought to further expand cardiac services to meet people's needs by starting a second program at Covenant, then St. Luke's Hospital. Along the way, he was there to initiate the interventional program and the electrophysiology program. Saginaw has now blossomed into one of the best cardiac centers in the Midwest.
After high school in Monroe, Sen. Kahn attended Delta College, MSU, and Wayne State University where he received his MD degree.
Sen. Kahn was born in Monroe, Michigan on January 28, 1945. He is married to Nyla, and together they have 8 children and 8 grandchildren.
