LaVoy, Bill (D)State Representative District 17
Representative LaVoy is the son of retired Judge Willian LaVoy. However, 2012 marked LaVoy's first run for public office. He won the Democratic primary for the 17th District seat by about 300 votes. Then, in the general, LaVoy won by more than 8,000 votes.
For about 14 years, Rep. LaVoy worked as the executive director of Monroe Public Access Cable Television.

Rep. LaVoy is a graduate of Leadership Monroe. He attended Monroe Catholic Central High School and the University of Michigan.
Representative LaVoy and his wife, Michelle, live in Monroe with their children, Grace and Carolyn.
He has served on the City of Monroe's airport board, the Monroe County Historical Society and the United Way of Monroe County. He is also past president of Monroe's City-County Arts Council and the Rotary Club of Monroe.
