POLITICAL CAREER

Rep. Garrett was first elected to the House in 2014 when she won 34.9 percent of the vote in a six-way Democratic primary, beating out Nicole Wells STALLWORTH by just under 300 votes. She won the general election in the heavily Democratic city of Detroit 98 to 2 percent over her Republican opponent, David Bradley. It was her first run for public office.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Prior to being elected, Rep. Garrett worked as a community activist and was a top assistant on several campaigns.

EDUCATION

Rep. Garrett attended Henry Ford High School and Wayne County Community College and is pursuing a bachelor's degree in medical case management from Davenport University.  

PERSONAL

Rep. Garrett and her husband, Anthony, have two children.  The family has a small business, Faustinas Creole & Soul Food on Wyoming Street in Detroit. She is cousins with Wayne County Clerk Cathy Garrett, and Michigan American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees President Al GARRETT. Her aunt is Ruth Ann GARRETT, a 36th District Court judge. And another of her relatives is Kelly GARRETT, Lathrup Village mayor pro tem.
