Rep. Vaupel was first elected to the Michigan House in 2014 when he defeated four other Republicans in the August primary. In the general election, Rep. Vaupel defeated Democrat Jordan GENSO 69 to 27 percent.  


Rep. Vaupel was an independent veterinarian who established his own practice in 1972. That practice now employs eight veterinarians and provides equine and small animal vet services to most of central southern Michigan. Rep. Vaupel is a former Handy Township Supervisor.

Rep. Vaupel earned a bachelor\'s degree and a doctorate in veterinary medicine from Michigan State University.


Rep. Vaupel and his wife, Cathy, have been happily married for 44 years. They have two grown sons, Matthew an electrical engineer, and Zachary, an orthopedic surgeon.


Rep. Vaupel has served on the Fowlerville Area Fire Authority. He is also a former member of the Livingston County Economic Development Council and former director of the Michigan Veterinary Medical Associaiton where he chaired the group\'s legislative advisory committee.
