Rep. Howell was first elected to the Michigan House on March 8, 2016, in a special election to replace resigned Rep. Todd COURSER of Lapeer.
Howell served as North Branch township, city and village attorney from 1974 until 2014.
Township, city and village attorney from 1974 to 2014, Rep. Howell also served as a township trustee and on the planning commission (1972-1977); North Branch School Board Trustee and President 1998-2015 and Chair of the Lapeer County Road Commission (2013-2015).
He is also a lifelong farmer.

Rep. Howell is a graduate of Michigan State University and he obtained his legal degree from the University of Michigan.
Married to Cheryl, three children, and four grandchildren (Brenna, Shelby, Andrew & Jacob).
Past president of the Lapeer County Bar Association. Life member: Lapeer American Legion Post 16 and member of the Lapeer Veterans of Foreign Wars Post as well as the Lapeer County Historical Society.
