Rep. David LaGrand is a Grand Rapids Democrat. He has served as the Assistant Kent County Prosecutor, as well as a City Commissioner (Ward 2) in 2007, and on the Grand Rapids School Board in 2012. He won the special election to replace former Rep. Brandon DILLON who resigned to become Democratic Party Chair.
He ran for the 29th state Senate district in 2006. He was unopposed in the primary but lost the general to Republican Bill HARDIMAN with 46.06 percent to Hardiman's 52.49 percent.
In 2010, LaGrand ran for the 29th state Senate district. After winning the Democrat primary against Robert DEAN 58.24 percent to 41.76 percent, he lost the general election against Republican Dave HILDENBRAND with 46.46 percent to Hildenbrand's 51.77 percent.
Rep. LaGrand is an attorney and owner - founder of Four Friends Coffeehouse, Wealthy Street Bakery, Hall Street Bakery, and Long Road Distillers.

Rep. LaGrand graduated from Calvin College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history in 1988 and received his law degree from the University of Chicago in 1992. He concentrates his practice in the areas of family and criminal law.
He and his wife, Melissa, have four children.
