Rep. Brian Elder was elected to his first term as state representative in November 2016. Prior to his election, Rep. Elder served eight years as a Bay County Commissioner and served as the Chairman of the Bay County Board of Commissioners.


Rep. Elder has practiced law in Mid-Michigan since 1998 and currently owns Brian K. Elder P.L.C., a general civil law practice.

He graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a bachelor’s degree in History and from UCLA School of Law earning a Juris Doctorate, with honors in Property Law and Oral Advocacy.


His wife Susan is a German teacher at Bay City Central High School and Handy Middle School. They have three children.
