Alexander, Betty Jean (D)State Senator District 5
Sen Alexander won her Senate seat in 2018 when she handed incumbent Sen. David KNEZEK the political defeat of the year in the August primary, which she won 54 to 46 percent over the incumbent.
She ran for the Detroit School Board in 2016 and finished 34th. She was encouraged to enter the race by Lamar LEMMONS who argued Knezek only won the 5th Senate District in 2014 when three prominent Detroiters split up the African-American vote.
Prior to being elected, Sen. Alexander served as a municipal clerical employee.
