POLITICAL CAREER

Sen. Geiss won the 6th Senate District in 2018 after having served two terms in the Michigan House.  In her primary, Geiss defeated fellow House member Rep. Robert Kosowski.  

In the House, she served as an assistant minority whip as well as vice chair of the Michigan Competitiveness Committee and on the Commerce and Trade Committee and Workforce and Talent Development Committee.  

WORK EXPERIENCE

Prior to running for the House, Geiss worked as an adjuct faculty member at the Art Institute of Michigan-Troy, and served on the Wayne County Council for Arts, History and Humanities.

EDUCATION

Sen. Geiss holds a Bachelor of Arts in Development Psychology from Brandeis University and an M.A. in Art and Architectural History from Tufts University.  

PERSONAL

She is the granddaughter of Panamanian immigrants and spent most of her life on the East Coast before moving to Michigan over a decade ago. She and her husband, Doug, live in Taylor and have two children.

CIVIC ACTIVITIES

Sen. Geiss has been active in her community, serving on the Master Plan Steering Committee for the city of Taylor and on the Taylor Cultural Arts Commission, of which she was chairwoman for two years. She also is a member of the Wayne County Council for the Arts, History and Humanities. She is the vice president of the PTO at her children’s elementary school and a member of the Downriver chapter of the American Association of University Women.
