POLITICAL CAREER
Sen. Irwin won the 18th Senate district in 2018 after he defeated Republican Martin CHURCH by securing 76.6 percent of the vote. Irwin won the 2018 primary, a four way race, with 35.6 percent of the vote.
Prior to being elected to the Senate, Irwin represented the 53rd House District from 2010 to 2016.
Irwin served for 10 years on the Washtenaw County Commission.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Sen. Irwin also worked for the League of Conservation Voters Education Fund and for then-State Sen. Alma Wheeler Smith.
EDUCATION
Irwin has a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan.
PERSONAL
Irwin and his wife, Kathryn, live in Ann Arbor with their daughter, Sylvia. He is the son of former Sen. Mitch Irwin, who is also a former director of the Department of Management and Budget.
