Carter, Tyrone (D)State Representative District 6
Rep. Tyrone Carter was first elected to the House on Nov. 6, 2018 when he secured 91 percent of the general election vote in the heavily Democratic 6th House District.
Carter won the August primary in 2018 by beating out 10 other Democratic candidates when he secured 20.89 percent of the vote.
In 2020, Carter won out in a primary field of three, by securing 62.5% of the vote. He faced no general election opponent.
In 2014, Carter finished second in the 64th House district Democratic primary, 1,414 votes behind eventual Rep. Stephanie CHANG.
He retired in 2008 as an exeecutive lieutenant with the Wayne County Sheriff's office after 25 years with the force.
Prior to his election, Carter served as the president of the Original United Citizens of Southwest Detroit, where he spearheaded activities designed to improve the life of residents.

Carter is a graduate of Central Michigan University, the Wayne County Sheriff Academy, the FBI National Academy and the Michigan Political Leadership Program at Michigan State University's Institute for Public Policy and Social Research.
He is married to Lisa CARTER, police commissioner for District 6. They have two sons, Tyler and the late Tyrone CARTER II.
Carter has served on several nonprofit organizational boards dedicated to improving the quality of life for their targeted populations.
He has worked with AmeriCorps Urban Safety Summer Youth Program at Wayne State University Center for Urban Studies since 2015.
