POLITICAL CAREER

Rep. Whitsett was first elected Nov. 6, 2018 when she defeated Republican James STEPHENS after securing 95.1 percent of the vote in the heavily Democratic 9th House district.  

Whitsett came out on top of a three candidate field to win the August 2018 Democratic primary by securing 56.4 percent of the vote. 

In 2020, Whitsett came out on top of a four member primary field in the August primary by securing 44.6% of the vote.  She defeated her general election opponent in November 2020 with 94.1% of the vote.  

WORK EXPERIENCE

Prior to her election to the Michigan House, Whitsett worked as a community organizer. 

She has advocated for neighborhood improvement projects and fought to reduce auto insurance rates. 

Whitsett has also worked both at the state and national level to improve education in urban communities.
