Rep. Garza was first elected on Nov. 6, 2018 after securing 66.63 percent of the general election vote against Republican Michelle BAILEY.
Garza came out on top of a four-candidate Democartic primary race when he won 46.6 percent of the vote in August 2018.
Prior to being elected to the Taylor City Council, Garza worked for state Rep. Rashida TLAIB as a legislative aide. He assisted in the everyday operations of her Detroit Service Center, which is where he found his passion for public service.
He also has worked as a legislative assistant to the Detroit City Council and as a field representative for U.S. Sen. Gary PETERS re-election campaign. Garza also served as director of constituent relations for state Rep. Stephanie CHANG.
One of the youngest Downriver residents elected to local office, Alex GARZA was serving in his second term on the Taylor City Council when elected to the House.

Garza attended the University of Michigan-Dearborn and Baker College, earning a bachelor's degree in political science and an associate's degree in business management.
