Rep. Brenda Carter was first elected to the House on Nov. 6, 2018 whe she defeated Republican Timothy Carrier after securing 74.1 percent of the vote.

In the August 2018 primary, Carter won in a six-candidate field by securing 30.78 percent of the vote.


She spoke around the world with the Improved Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks and as an organizer of the Million Woman March.

Carter moved to Pontiac in 1998 and began working with the Pontiac Community Schools Improvement Team.

She was president of the Pontiac School District Board of Education and Michigan Association of School Board Directors.

Carter holds a bachelor's degree in business administration and a master's degree in public administration. She plans to pursue a doctorate in education from Oakland University.
