Rep. Afendoulis was first elected to the House on Nov. 6, 2018, replacing her cousin, Chris Afendoulis, who sought a Senate seat.
She won the 73rd House district after defeating Democrat Bill SAXTON by securing 60.1 percent of the vote. Afendoulis won out in a four-candidate primary by securing 49 percent of the vote.
She worked for Universal Forest Products Inc. for 15 years as director of corporate communications and community relations. Prior to that post, she was a reporter for The Grand Rapids Press and The Tampa Tribune.
She resigned her appointment to the State Transportation Commission after two years to run for office.

She attended Miami University in Ohio and received her degree in journalism from Michigan State University.
She has one son and one daughter.
She is currently a board member of the Economic Club of Grand Rapids, the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce, Legacy Trust, and the parish council of her church, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
