PREVIOUS OCCUPATION
U.S. Rep. TLAIB is an attorney and former member of the Michigan House from 2009 through 2014. In her second term, she currently serves on the House Committee on Financial Services and the House Committee on Oversight and Reform.
Prior to her election to the U.S. House, Tlaib served as an advocate with the Sugar Law Center for Economic and Social Justice.
She was the first Muslim woman to ever serve in the state legislature and rose to the level of Minority Vice Chair of the House Appropriations Committee. Upon her election in 2018, she earned the honor of becoming the first Muslim woman ever elected to Congress.
