Rashida Tlaib (D)House District 13
U.S. Rep. Tlaib is an attorney and former member of the Michigan House from 2009 through 2014.
Prior to her election to the U.S. House, Tlaib served as an advocate with the Sugar Law Center for Economic and Social Justice.
She was the first Muslim woman to ever serve in the state legislature and rose to the level of Minority Vice Chair of the House Appropriations Committee. Upon her election in 2018, she earned the honor of becoming the first Muslim woman ever elected to Congress.
Tlaib is the mother of two boys, and is the daughter of Palestinian immigrants. She was born and raised in Detroit.
